Much Ado About Nothing

Benedick and Beatrice are sworn enemies, but they have a shared past: an affair which went wrong and left wounded feelings and injured pride on both sides. However, Beatrice’s younger cousin Hero is now to be married to one of Benedick’s close friends and they are once again drawn into each other’s company. For the sake of her cousin and Uncle Leonato, Beatrice must force herself to be civil to her former lover and his friends. Meanwhile, Benedick’s friends play a trick on him, allowing him to eaves drop as they discuss how much Beatrice still loves him.  .  .

“The greatest romcom of them all” Charles Spencer.

“One of the most popular comedies of all time”: Peter Viney

The play has been popular from its earliest days when it soon became a favourite court entertainment. It has been the vehicle for many great stars including Ellen Terry and Henry Irving, Donald Sinden and Judy Dench, Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon and Penelope Wilton . . . .

Pete Bagley's production will set the play at the end of World War Two with the returning soldiers Benedick, Claudio and Don Pedro being welcomed home by land girls and members of the Home Guard.
